Laura Alden Kamm grew up in rural Ohio. A world traveler at a young age, Laura tromped through 16 countries by the time she was eight. By age 10, she began asking questions to those of different faiths. She wanted to understand about God. When she was 16, she spent a summer at a small Ohio college. While she was there, she went for a walk with a girl she’d just met.
During that twilight walk, suddenly, simultaneously, the two girls experienced a miraculous event. It was a spiritual transformation of such magnitude that the presence that enveloped them, paralyzing and transfixing their bodies to the stone bench upon which they sat. It was a miracle; yet, she was frightened by the varied responses of those who heard the story. The only safe place for this experience was in her heart. Over the next 10 years, Laura hid it and camouflaged its wisdom.
After high school, she headed to Ohio State University, and then ended up working at the headquarters for the Commander in Chief for the North Atlantic Fleet. She married, had two children, and continued to pursue a scholarly vision of building structures with an architectural/anthropological influence that infused the work of her heroes—Margaret Mead, Joseph Campbell, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
While attending Indiana State University in 1981, her life was transformed when she awoke one morning with a searing pain in her head. Within 11 days she was totally blind. Several hours later, she died in an ambulance.
She crossed over to the other side and had an extraordinary near-death experience. Her life and mission was forever changed. She recovered from this traumatic illness, partially blind (homonymous hemianopsia) and with a rare and precise gift of inner sight. As her neurosurgeon said, after she described to him how she physically saw particles and ribbons of colors within and around everything, “Laura, it will be 100 years before Western science finds out what really happened to you.”
Early on, a schism formed between her experiences and skills, and the mainstream world. Laura felt far-flung from what life was supposed to be. But what is life supposed to be? She recognized that she was a normal, mid-western woman who simply had a profound gift and extraordinary spiritual experiences that began at a young age.
She saw a black hole between science, religion, philosophy, contemporary spirituality and mysticism, and the unwillingness of people to speak of their direct experiences with God that fall outside of the lines of “acceptable” dogma. She began to envision intelligent, compassionate conversations about living with hope and fulfillment in our flattening, modern world while being consciously engaged in spirituality and its inherently beautiful, yet, challenging experiences.
Her book, (Intuitive Wellness) and audio programs (Unlocking Your Intuitive Power: How to Read the Energy of Anything and Color Intuition) address the question she asked as a child— who or what is God? For almost thirty years she has engaged in work that keeps her in direct contact with spirituality, never loosing her thirst for cross-cultural applications of religion, mysticism, and how science has been empowered to make or break a spiritual point (but can never diminish one’s experience).
As a structural and medical intuitive, she has worked with countless individuals around the world, from all strata of society. Doctors have called Laura a “walking MRI” for her laser-like accuracy in intuitive assessments. She has served on research panels; NIH-funded studies on remote healing with AIDs patients; and worked with the post-op, heart transplant support teams at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Her work has been highlighted in Body + Soul and Better Health and Living Magazines, and she is the ‘Intuitive Development Expert’ for Sounds True web channel.
When she is not producing radio, she is writing, lecturing, teaching and working with private clients. She is the proud mother of two lovely, adult children, a life-long student of anthropology/sociology, a gardener, and a practitioner of meditation, yoga, and various eastern arts, including calligraphy. www.LauraAldenKamm.com
